Gizmondo: Rumours have begun circulating that Panasonic is going to produce a dual HD DVD/Blu-ray player next year.
Sources say that Panasonic is doing this to protect itself, as the next-generation DVD wars aren’t close to being resolved, and they don’t want all their next-generation eggs in one next-generation basket, no matter how Blu that basket may be.
Also, it’s rumored that Sony will be making one of these as well, but this is even more rumory than the Panasonic rumor. Best to ‘believe it when you see it’, since Sony’s not one to throw in the towel and a hybrid drive would be somewhat of a concession.
We’ll keep you posted.

Quit posting these stupid arse articles. It aint gonna happen. The only thing you’re trying to do is get hits. Its BS and if you think Sony is in for HD DVD youre more stupid than I thought. Do you think Sony imbedded the BD into the PS3 only to make HD DVD hybrids? They would then have to retool all their productionmachines to create HD DVDs. You may be able to get people hyped about the thought but it just isn’t gonna happen. All this gossip on sites like this is like a Biaaaatch board. Go do some research and then make a logical determination if this makes financial sense. Moreso, see if its financially possible for the companies to do this. One other thing, get a copy of the contracts that is required to be signed off to be on the BD consortium and you’ll understand why it just isnt possible. The legal ramifications are substantial. So give the hybrid thing a rest. You’re unamed source is a guy who has been smoking too many trees and just wants to have a moment in the spotlight to say “They quoted me.” You think we’re all a bunch of idiots and that you can get us all worked up. Most of you guys postin this sh*t are M$ fanboys that have come to the realization that BD is here and it will win the HD war. Content is King and until M$ buys a studio or 2 ain’t nothing gonna happen on the HD side. Get it? Got it? Good!

@ Onetwothree: operhaps you have a very high opinion of yourself. However what you are saing is just simple and plain incorrect. Sony has dozends of manufacturing lines for DVD which can be used to produce HD DVD without much effort. Hybrid players (I prefer to refer to them as “Super Drives”) have already been announced by Samsung and LG and will come before the end of 2007. It does not sound unrealistic that Panasonic and Sony have a “plan B” (i.e. Super Drive) up their sleeves. Once Super Drives are available, there is no more format war, consumers will go out and “blindly” purchase HD content, as it will play in that drives anyway…
