Nokia continues to beef-up GPS expertise

Nokia has signed a cross-licensing deal with Trimble Navigation, a company with 700 patents in positioning systems.

Trimble is also involved in the Galileo positioning system, the EU’s alternative to GPS.  Their product portfolio is an exhaustive list of positioning technology for, amongst others, in-vehicle systems and dedicated portable devices.

Nokia recently acquired German mapping technologist gate5 and launched its first GPS-enabled phone, the N95.

The Trimble deal will fill out its sat nav portfolio. A spokesperson for the Nokia said local search is of particular interest, both for retailers and operators, who expect to derive revenue from making relevant information of this kind available to subscribers as they pass through a particular area.

Hi, Ryan! N91 is no doubt one hell of a phone. I have stopped caring Ipod after N91 because it serves both purposes. It has an excellent sound quality and amazing features. Like, I have recently signed up with a free online phone backup service called zyb.com. It took me less than 5 mins to upload my 432 contacts. cool phone!!!!!!!!! ;)
