Sony to stay out of large screen LCD TV market

Smarthouse: Sony is set to stay out of the large screen LCD TV market. Instead the Company aims to dominate in the mass mid market between 40″ and 80″ screens.

Ryoji Chubachi, president and electronics CEO of Sony told the China Business News this week that the company has no plan to launch 100-inch-and-larger LCD TVs in the future.

There is no need for many companies in developing 100-inch-and-larger LCD TVs, the president was cited in adding.

The size of 70 inches is the largest model for the LCD TVs already showcased to the public from Sony and the maker is to offer a 70-inch model (KDL-70XBR3) in summer. The company has demonstrated a prototype of an 82-inch Bravia LCD TV.

In the flat-panel TV market, only PDP (plasma display panel) TV makers are offering 110-inch-and-larger sets while LCD TV makers still have not rolled out same-class models.
