iPod box contains bizzare message

PMP Today: A young girl opens an iPod box for Christmas only to discover that it’s been replaced with an interesting, almost anarchistic message that reads: “Reclaim your mind from the media’s shackles. Read a book and ressurect yourself. To claim your capitalistic garbage go to your nearest Apple store.”

When the girl’s father returned the iPod to the Wal-Mart store where he bought it, the manager told him that another customer came to the store complaining about a similar issue.

Windows Mobile phones can function as 3G WiFi routers

Mobile Magazine: Let’s see. You’ve got yourself a 3G-capable Windows Mobile device that also happens to have a WiFi radio embedded within. Did you know that could combine these two wireless technologies to share the web with your friends? That’s exactly the objective behind the appropriately named WMWifiRouter.

The application is absolutely free — although they appreciate any donations you’re willing to provide — and it essentially allows your Windows Mobile device to connect to the web through a 3G connection, and then share that connection via WiFi to any compatible devices in the area. This functions in a similar way as tethering your smartphone to your laptop, except the sharing is done via WiFi.

You will naturally need a crazy 3G data plan if you want to use WMWifiRouter. Otherwise, you can surely expect to get a huge bill at the end of the month.

Microsoft working with Gyration for what might be a new motion sensitive Xbox 360 controller

Slashgear: So the Wii obviously has motion sensitivity, in facts that’s just about the only way to play the system, and then there is the PS3 that has motion sensitivity even though its not used near as much as the Wii, that leaves the 360 as the only system without motion sensitivity. That’s not entirely a bad thing as that leaving out the motion sensitivity makes it easier for game developers to make great games based on the same old standards that have worked for years.

But with motion sensitivity taking over the gaming world, developers are obviously going to be switching to designing games in that style, and the only way they could easily be ported over to the Xbox 360 is if it has motion sensitivity capabilities. So, now we have Microsoft working on a new gaming peripheral just for that purpose.

Creative-built TAG Heuer USB headset outed by FCC

Engadget: We have no idea why luxury watch and occasional cellphone maker TAG Heuer would be getting into the PC peripherals game, yet according to an FCC filing, the 150-year-old Swiss watchmaker has a Creative Labs-built USB headset in the pipeline.

And although this wireless unit is branded TAG and developed by Creative, the actual cans themselves will likely be sold by Listen To Believe (LTB) Audio, another accessories company with very similar products. Either way, what you’re getting here is reportedly “the world [sic] first digital wireless headset that delivers high-quality 2.0-channel stereo audio with extra sound clarity and soft, deep bass effects,” according to the manual.

Fujitsu drops HDTV business in Western countries

Electronista: Further reducing the rapidly shrinking Japanese HDTV market, Fujitsu on Thursday said it would halt production of its AVIAMO HDTV line, signaling the end of the company’s display business. The company argues that its focus for the sets, which primarly included a set of high-end plasmas built for custom and luxury home theater setups, has effectively squeeze the company out of its own market.

As pricing in North America and the UK has become cutthroat, there is little money to be made in continuing the business, Fujitsu claims. Business will continue in these areas until March, when the display business will focus on Japan alone.

ATP Photo Finder

NaviGadget: This little device automatically tags your photos with GPS information (geotag). The concept of ATP Photo Finder is a bit different. The way this machine syncs with your camera is very simple. First you set the time of your camera and the time on your ATP Photo Finder to the same time.

Then you activate your photo finder and take your pictures as you normally would. After you finish taking pictures, simply insert your memory card into the Photo Finder’s card slot and the GPS data will be synchronized and added to all the pictures on the card. Then you use a GPS compatible software such as Picasa2 or Google Earth and then you can track the exact location and time of where your pictures were taken. And that’s why ATP Photo Finder will work with almost any digital camera on the market today.
