Taiwan’s Innolux to ship TFT-LCD panels to Nokia

CNNMoney: Innolux Display will start shipping thin-film-transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panels to Nokia in the first quarter of 2008, the Economic Daily News reported, citing the company’s chief financial officer Thomas Hsu.

To date, Innolux has been supplying mainly super twisted nematic LCD panels to the world’s largest cellphone maker, he said.

Innolux has yet to win contracts from South Korea’s Samsung Electronics and Apple, he added.

The report said small and medium-sized TFT-LCD panels, including those for mobile phone use, earn higher gross margins than large panels, or those measuring 10 inches or more diagonally.

Small and medium-size TFT-LCD panels are expected to account for more than 20 pct of Innolux sales in 2008, up from 15-20 pct in 2007, it said.
