Apple doubles iPod Shuffle song space

The Register: Apple yesterday refreshed its iPod Shuffle range and added a 2GB version of the miniature player. It also dropped the price of the 1GB Shuffle.

The company’s larger-capacity model doubles the amount of storage capacity previously available to Shuffle owners. However, don’t expect any new technical innovations, because the Shuffle is still a miniature music player with a built-in clip.

Apple dropped the price of its 1GB Shuffle to €45. This is good news for customers, but bad news for the Product campaign because it will receive a smaller amount of money for every 1GB Product Shuffle now sold.

The campaign sees participating companies, including Apple, Dell and Microsoft, create red versions of their products. A percentage of the product’s sale value then goes towards fighting Aids in Africa.

Apple’s 2GB iPod Shuffle will be available later this month in a selection of colours for €60. The company’s reduced-price 1GB player is available immediately.
