Flat-panel TV price expected to drop more than 20% in 2009

DigiTimes: Flat-panel TV ASPs are expected to drop more than 20% in 2009, while the price gap between medium- and large-size TVs will become even smaller, according market watchers.

The price for 37-inch HD LCD TV is expected to drop to below US$500 in the fourth quarter of 2009 from US$670 at the end of 2008, the observers noted. The price for 32-inch high-end models may remain at US$530, while the price for entry-level models may drop below US$400, the observers added.

Entry-level 42-inch models are expected to see prices drop to US$580 at the end of 2009, and continued price declines may turn the 42-inch segment into the market mainstream by 2012, the watchers said. The smaller-size LCD TV market is expected to reach 20 million units in 2009 and to 30 million units in 2012, the observers said.
