New vlog for DJs includes free AV downloads and tutorials

http://www.djsounds.com/ a video blog for the DJ community, has caught our attention recently.

It features video profiles of both top-name and up-and-coming DJs and event reports from the international dance and club scenes.

A ‘Tips and Tricks’ section features exclusive “how to” videos, where users can lean the art of DJ-ing from some well-known names.

Supporting the VJ (Video Jockey) artist, http://www.djsounds.com/ also features a library of AV loops, which anyone can download, for no cost, free from royalties, rights or copyright.

The site uses standard RSS feeds, so visitors can be notified of new DJ profiles, event reports, tutorials or loops.

Wii finds a place in pop culture

Newlaunches: Apart from gaming the Wiimote has had some practical uses also like controlling Google Earth, a remote controlled car or an entire smarthome. Here is an addition to the list: DJing, and apparently you can make some good music using the Wiimote. Even the DS is put to use this time with a VJ throwing up some real cool effects. Looks like Japan, doesnt it?

Native Instruments hypes new DJ system

Futuremusic: Native Instruments, one of several manufacturers coming out with a DJ controller for the upcoming NAMM show, has released a sneak picture. The picture doesn’t reveal much, but the unit appears to have the quality fit and finish that we’ve grown to expect from the German concern.

It’s almost shocking how many companies have announced controllers this year. In fact, NAMM 2007 could be labeled the Year Of The DJ Controller! The good news is that DJs around the world will have a plethora of amazing new products to take their mixing into the digital realm. ATH-PRO700: new Audio-Technica headset for DJs

Akihabara: Audio-Technica has the ATH-PRO700, a new headset for DJs or anybody else who want to get their ears loaded. The headset has 53mm drive units, outputs 105dB/mW (at 36Ω) on a range of 5Hz to 33kHz. The design is quite nice and is almost iPod-inspired. It weights 320g.

From Russia with love: homemade DJ cassette decks

Musicthing: DJ Artyom is a new MT hero – he’s done what I always dreamed of doing when I was little and couldn’t afford a pair of Technics. He’s built a pair varispeed tape decks, complete with ‘jog wheel’, EQ and motor off switches. He also has a nice minimal studio setup (he only uses Max/MSP). DJ Artyom, we salute you!

Futuristic turn table PC from Fujitsu

T3: The Turn Table PC from Fujitsu has a touch-sensitive LCD panel on the front that lets your DJ skills run wild. As well as spinning some virtual discs, you can control a connected MP3 player using a display on the front, without flipping the notebook open. With virtual 5.1 channel surround sound, it could be the ultimate music laptop.

But Fujitsu hasn’t stopped its tinkering at the cover – when you open the notebook there’s an LED touch-sensitive keyboard that keeps the style flowing.

Fujitsu unveiled the Turn Table PC at the Ceatec technology fair in Tokyo and while it is only a concept item at the moment, the company reckons they’ll be rolling off the production line within the next two years.

Sony announces noise-canceling earphones

Futuremusic: Sony has announced the MDR-NC22 noise-canceling earphones and claims they’re able to reduce 75% of all ambient noise. Powered by one AAA battery that claims to give you 50 hours of running time, Sony says the thing is 39% smaller than its predecessor, as well.

The Sony MDR-NC22 Noise Reduction Earphones are being rolled out in Japan. A European ship date has not been announced.

New music download site from Minsitry of Sound

TechDigest:  The Ministry of Sound has today launched a DRM-free dance-focused digital music download service, in partnership with DJ Download. It features 60,000 tracks from over 2000 record labels, all of which are playable on any MP3-capable computer or music player.

Ministry of Sound, Digital DownloadThe site does much the same as other download services, but with a dance music flavour of course. Tracks and albums can be purchased via credit/debit card or with PayPal, and the service will recommend new music for you based on your previous purchases.

Paul van Dyk sticks to Allen & Heath mixers

DJMag: Last year’s Top 100 DJs poll winner, Paul van Dyk, has adopted Allen & Heath’s groundbreaking new Xone:3D mixer to use in his DJ sets around the world.
“The 3D is perfect for my live set up as it’s not just a mixer, it’s also a controller, which means I can programme in real time using the unit’s MIDI sends and returns,” explained van Dyk.
