Engadget: As the torrent of new gear continues, we’re now faced with another pair of iPod sound systems desperately attempting to knock the “me-too” status and contribute something positive to the world.

The Rechargeable Speaker S315i is the larger of the two, boasting a rechargeable battery that’s supposedly good for up to 20 hours of listening. The unit is fully compatible with dock-connecting iPods and iPhones, and there’s even an auxiliary input for those who aren’t down with Cupertino’s wares.

The smaller Portable Speaker S125i plays and charges any iPod model and can be powered by an AC adapter, four AA cells or 8.43 tablespoons of Jobs’ favorite fairy dust.

Electronista: Logitech announced its Squeezebox network music players will now offer the Napster subscription music service. Via their wired or wireless home networks, users will have access to Napster’s roughly 7 million-song online library as long as they have active memberships.

The service is available both for models with Internet radio support as well as simple network music playback.

The streaming extends both to manual album, artist and song selection as well as fully dynamic playlists thanks to the Napster Automix feature. Users can also make their own playlists, or tune to one of more than 50 pre-supplied channels divided by genre. There are also thousands of existing playlists to choose from.

Electronista: Peripheral maker Logitech announced it will soon release the Cordless Vantage Microphone for avid gamers.

The microphone connects to PCs and is compatible with the Sony PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 as well as the Microsoft Xbox 360 gaming systems thanks to a USB port.

The microphone relies on the 2.4GHz frequency to provide the wireless connection to its USB base which doubles as a holder, with range of up to 30 feet.

Logitech claims the two included AA batteries will last more than 20 hours.

Crave: Logitech has stealthily released the Harmony 510, a new entry-level universal remote that slightly reworks the design seen on the company’s previous 500-series models.

It’s almost an exact copy of the Harmony 550, except for a different color scheme and slight reworking of the keypad.

There’s a third remote in the line: the Logitech Harmony Advanced Universal Remote for Xbox 360. Even for non-Xbox 360 owners, that model may actually be the pick of the litter, because it has a couple of extra buttons over the 550–and controls 12 devices.

Eurogamer: Logitech has decided to make a force feedback racing wheel for Wii to work with Need for Speed Undercover.

The peripheral will launch this November and do futuristic things such as turn 200 degrees and feature built-in analogue gas and brake controls.

It’s also wireless, and reducing clutter further is the clever one-piece design.

Which all sounds rather pointless, although the Logitech Speed Force Wireless racing wheel will probably be rather good, judging by the quality of the PS3 version we tested recently.

Electronista: Logitech said yesterday it has acquired Ultimate Ears.

The deal gives Logitech its first true entry point into in-canal earphones and includes a lineup of devices geared both towards regular portable media players as well as audiophiles and professional concert or studio monitors.

The move is more specifically intended by Logitech to support its iPhone and iPod lineups, which so far consist only of speaker docks.

The influence can already be seen on Ultimate Ears’ website, though Logitech notes that the deal should be approved and take full effect by the end of August.
