Sharp tease with 108-inch LCD TV prototype

AV zombie: Sharp has revealed a spectacular 108-inch AQUOS LCD TV TV, claimed to be the world’s largest, at the Las Vegas CES. The model, still at prototype stage, measures 93.9-inches high by 52.9-inches wide and features a Black Advanced Super View Full HD LCD panel manufactured at Sharp’s Kameyama Plant No. 2.

No price or on-sale date has been announced.

LG to mass produce 100-inch LCD

DigiTimes: LG is scheduling time for “mass production” of its 100-inch LCD TV, according to a press release from the company. A selling price has not yet been determined, the company has said.

LGE recently developed the 100-inch LCD TV and the model will enter 2007 Guinness Book as the world’s largest LCD TV.

The 100-inch LCD TV, with panel from LG.Philips LCD, features a maximum 3,000:1 contrast ratio, color reproduction of 92%, viewing angle of 180 degrees and response time of 5ms, said the company.

The TV is offering a 6.22 million-pixel picture quality, said the company.

In ultra large flat-panel TV competition, plasma technology is so far the winner. In July, Panasonic said it will start offering 103-inch PDP TVs, the world’s largest, with a retail selling price of US$69,999.95 (€54,800), in Christmas 2006.

AV Zombie:  Panasonic’s whopper 103-inch plasma TV will be made to special order in Europe by the end of the year, at a price of around €45,000, which includes installation.

The world’s biggest commercially available flatscreen will be joined by 65, 58 and 50-inch models.

All four screens have HDMI inputs and an SD Card slot.

Panasonic 103-inch plasma for $80K

USA Today:  Panasonic said yesterday at IFA (Berlin) that it would start selling the world’s largest plasma TV, a 103-inch (262-centimeter) screen, for $80,000 (around €62,000).

“That’s before installation cost,” said a Panasonic spokesman at the IFA consumer electronics fair here.

The set is just five inches thick.
