Akihabara News: LG has launched their new XCanvas TVs, which include a line-up of 5 Full HD TVs with a 160GB hard disk to copy your favorite TV show in HD without having to mess with a DVR.

160GB may be too light for some of you, but the TVs are equipped with a USB 2.0 port so you can connect an external hard disk, and therefore as much disk space as you can afford.

The TVs are also equipped with the new XD Engine and XCC to reduce the image noise. The new TVs include LCD models measuring 37, 42 and 47”, and Plasma models measuring 50 and 60”.

Their price ranges from €2,000 to €7,300.

Home Cinema Choice: Hitachi will upgrade its entire lineup of plasma TVs to 1080 resolution in 2007. Their plasmas will feature integrated personal video recorders (PVR) and a host of new picture processing technologies.

Due in the Autumn, the flagship X and XR series, available in 1920 x 1080 resolution, will ship in 42, 50 and 60in sizes. The larger two will sport 250GB hard drives, able to make recordings direct from a Freeview EPG.

This built-in PVR allows the viewer to record one channel while watching another, comes with a 28-event timer and features audio playback of recordings during slow (x0.8) and fast (x1.5) trick replay.

The PVR plasmas can even have their recording capacity enlarged through slot-in iVDR (information Versatile Disk for Removable storage) drives. This removable caddy may become a common standard for all hard drives used with consumer electronics kit.

All feature three HDMI inputs (two rear, one front-facing).

Preceding these models will be two more affordable 1080 interlaced plasmas. The T-series 42in and 50in models will feature 1024 x 1080 and 1280 x 1080 resolution respectively.

Pioneer announced yesterday the release of three new plasma screens for professional use in corporate, retail and display environments.The new 42, 50 and 60-inch plasma displays include the new PUREBLACK 2 panel (the same as used in their consumer plasma TVs) and the PURE DRIVE PRO video processing engine which provides superior scaling and video processing.

The 50-inch PDP-50MXE20 will be available in November, the 60-inch PDP-60MXE20 in December and the 42-inch PDP-42MXE20 will follow in January.

All screens will be available in black; the 50-inch will also be available in silver.

NE Asia: Hitachi America has recently demonstrated what it claims is the industry’s first 42-inch full high-definition plasma TV, as well as a 60-inch full HD plasma display.

As we reported in August, Hitachi’s 42-inch plasma display introduces 1920 x 1080 lines of resolution to the 42-inch plasma screen size for the first time, offering a pristine vertical line match with the dominant 1080 HDTV format.

The company’s development of the high resolution 42-inch plasma display is made possible through the application of a number of original technologies. Using its proprietary electrode sharing technology, the 42-inch full HD panel delivers more than 2 million pixels and more than 6 million individual lights.

A patented “slim-rib” feature enables a wider aperture ratio, creating an intense brightness of 1,000cd/m² and “dazzling” picture quality for the viewer.

Akihabara News: Pioneer has launched a new 60-inch plasma TV – the PDP-607HX.

According to their European website, it will hit the mainland in January 2007 under the name PDP-607XD.

Their 60-inch has a native resolution of 1365×768 and can accept a  1920x1080p/24Hz signal.  Finishing off their 7th Generation line-up of 42 and 50-inch Plasma TVs, it has an integrated DVB-T tuner, 2 HDMI inputs and a PC input.
