Born Rich: In December 2009, Bang & Olufsen presented the second generation of the Advanced Sound System for the new Audi A8. The highly praised sound system has been now made available for the new Audi A8 L, the long wheel-based model of the A8. The luxurious A8 L enriches the passengers in the back seat with extra comfort. The Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System has been tailored for the longer A8. They have modified the midrange speaker box in the rear doors and chosen a larger midrange grill to complement the extended dimensions of the rear section. Moreover, a profound sound tuning was done to achieve the quality sound experience in the spacious car. They have gone for five additional loudspeakers for the new Audi A8 L. There are 19 speakers in total, with each fine tuned for a perfect sound experience. The loudspeaker grills for the midranges and woofers in both front and rear doors are made from aluminum to match perfectly the Audi A8 L’s interior curves.
Exclusively optimized for the A8 L, the “Volume Levelling” feature makes sure ensures that every passenger in the A8 L enjoys an optimum sound experience regardless of the surrounding noise conditions. Audi and Bang & Olufsen have been continuously developing high-end sound systems for different Audi models since 2005.

Übergizmo: If it weren’t about the price, most folks out there would want a few Bang & Olufsen products in their home. Now the company has just announced its BeoVision 8, which is a smaller version of its BeoVision 10 LCD, and less expensive. This 4-inch display touts 240Hz motion processing, something that the folks over at B&O claim to be nearly double that of the conventional LCDs. Being a B&O product, you’d expect it to sport some pretty awesome sound quality. The BeoVision 8 will be available this summer, and should set you back around $5,400, pricey, but it shouldn’t force you to sell your assets, right?

Übergizmo: Struck the lottery and need a better subwoofer to irritate your neighbors? That’s what the upcoming BeoLab 11 from Bang & Olufsen is for. Aside from its stylish looks, it promises some awesome bass. It offers two 6.5-inch drivers facing each other in an aluminum shell, and will handle all your beats really well. It’ll be available in North America by mid-May 2010 and will set you back a good $2,000.

EngadgetHD: Typically devoid of fancy lights, knobs, and switches, amplifiers typically don’t get a lot of marketing hype; heck, most people who own a receiver aren’t even aware of the amplifier section.
Bang & Olfusen’s Class D ICEpower switching amplifiers wrinkle that a bit — the compact footprint, light weight, energy efficiency and impressive specs are enough to make the newer technology marketable as, well, new.
Sadly, from Audioholics’ examination of many samples, it also looks like the newness stopped there and several manufacturers have slapped crazy price tags on an essentially “reference design” implementation.
There’s plenty of good technical info about the test bench performance of these amps in the link, but with several happy ICEpower users it’s hard to say that the subjective performance is unsatisfactory; the wide price range for essentially the same amp is what’s troubling. If nothing else, let it serve as a cautionary tale of not falling for the latest thing just because it’s the latest thing — when you’re shopping for an amp, take your ears along with your wallet.

AVReview: Bang & Olufsen has kept to its traditionally extravagant aesthetic with the launch of its new golden range of home AV products.
Though they may look a little Arthur Daley to the untrained eye, B&O assures us the entire range is made using only ‘real materials’ such as aluminium, glass, rubber and wood, all of which has been selected for its ‘quality and ability to fit naturally into any home environment’ (as long as you live in a gold bedecked palace, that is).
The gold colour range has been selected for a limited few products in order to maintain a level of exclusivity, with each product made to order.

Car Tech: The Aston Martin DBS is a beautiful car, and sitting in one is a very special experience. Sitting in a DBS and listening to a Bang & Olufsen audio system takes that special experience and adds a choir of angels. The high-end Danish audio components maker lends its expertise to Aston Martin with its Beosound DBS system, now coming as standard in the new DBS.
Bang & Olufsen’s priorities are staging and imaging, making the sound come from a distinct place, as if you had the best seat in the house, right in front of the stage.
To accomplish this effect in the Aston Martin DBS, the company found places for 13 speakers, including two pop-up acoustic lenses at opposite ends of the dashboard, just like in the Audi A8.

Wired: High end audio and video equipment maker Bang & Olufsen is reportedly getting out of the cellphone business. The company has released just two cellphones, the Serene and Serenata, over the last four years in collaboration with Samsung.
Now facing financial pressure, Bang & Olufsen has decided to end that partnership and focus on its core products, reports a Swedish site.
Bang & Olufsen’s handset Serene was designed by the company but produced by Samsung. The phone released in 2005 was a luxury product and then retailed in Bang & Olufsen’s stores for 1100 Euros.

BBC News: Luxury electronics maker, Bang & Olufsen (B&O), has issued a profit warning for 2007/8 as a slump in sales threatens its balance sheet.
The company said the uncertain global economy was making it difficult to anticipate “market developments”.
The top-of-the-range television and stereo maker has been feeling the effects of the economic downturn as consumers reign in non-essential spending in a bid to counterbalance rocketing fuel and food prices.
B&O issued a previous profit warning in March and sacked former boss Torben Sorensen in January after it saw a 37% decline in half-year profits.
B&O’s key markets are Denmark, the UK, Germany, and the US.

PC World: Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and audio product maker Bang & Olufsen on Tuesday unveiled their latest joint music-mobile phone, Serenata, which holds 4G bytes of songs and has a number of other music features similar to the iPhone. The handsets will go on sale in Europe by the end of the month, said Anthony Lee, a spokesman at Samsung. Pricing has not yet been determined.
The handset doesn’t look much like a mobile phone: the top half is dominated by a navigation wheel, the designers having dispensed with buttons. The 2.26-inch LCD (liquid crystal display) touch screen is below the navigation wheel, in the place where the buttons are found on conventional mobile phones.
The navigation wheel is intended to be used one-handed. All primary functions on the phone are controlled by the navigation wheel, including searching menus, dialing, writing and accessing music lists, the companies said. The touch screen is secondary.

Engadget: Style-maven Bang & Olufsen has introduced a new Digital Audio Player into the mix, called the Beosound 6.
Breaking from typical B&O design convention the Beosound 6 is a strikingly simple design; a silver, candy-bar shaped audio player with stripped-down controls and a thin LCD display.
Specs are light at the moment, but it looks like standard MP3 / WMA playback, 4GB of flash memory (jettisoning the company’s previous SD storage scheme), a 65K color LCD screen, and USB connectivity. The player will also be accompanied by a leather case and the company’s A8 earphones, and will retail for around £400 (588 euro).
