Frame turns prints into digital artwork

Register Hardware: If you’ve got a stack of photographs at home and not enough wall space to hang them from, then check out this digital photo frame with integrated picture scanner.

Skyla, manufactured by storage firm LiteOn, has a built-in scanner that lets pictures measuring up to 4 x 6in be run through it and digitised. The frame then converts these into digital images which are displayed, in colour, on the 8in screen.

The frame can store up to 200 4 x 6in images, but if you choose to scan in smaller, 3 x 5in prints then about 400 pictures can be shown. The frame also has two USB ports through which you can feed images from a Flash drive.

The Skyla frame will be displayed in stores across the US for around $220. When Europe will follow is yet unknown.

Skyla Memoir Digital Photo Frame Features A Built-In 4×6 Scanner

OhGizmo!: For the most part there’s very little that distinguishes the hundreds of different digital photo frames on the market. But the Memoir from Skyla (the new consumer electronics division of LiteOn IT) will definitely stand out in the crowd since it features a built-in photo scanner that makes it easy for anyone to convert an old print into a digital photo.

Because of the size of the frame the scanner is limited to handling 4×6 prints or smaller, but the 1GB of internal memory should be enough to store about 200 4×6 photos scanned at 600 dpi..

The Memoir also features pretty much everything else you’d expect in a ‘modern’ digital photo frame including an 800×600 resolution LCD, two USB ports for connecting flash drives or syncing the frame to your PC and support for MP3s, MPEGs and other image files.

Sony Ericsson intros first digital photo frame

Electronista: Sony Ericsson on Tuesday entered the digital photo frame market with its IDP-100 Digital Photo Frame. Featuring a 7-inch LED screen with 800×480 resolution and 128MB of built-in memory, the IDP-100 is meant to make it easier to transfer images from users’ camera phones in addition to their conventional digital cameras.

Images can be transferred to the frame via the wireless Bluetooth connection, a USB 2.0 port, or memory card slots for the M2, microSD, SD or MS Duo standards. Users can then control the way the images are displayed via the touch-sensitive interface.

Photos are automatically resized and oriented in either the landscape or portrait position, while the built-in Digital Image Correction software will color-correct and enhance the tone and edges of photos.

Gigantor 15-inch digital photo frame brings the value

Engadget: We’ve seen a lot of digital photo frames try to make an impression, tacking on every possible feature from WiFi to 20GB hard drives to SideShow in a bid to capture the public’s imagination, but really the only feature that ever stands out is a big-ass screen — which is exactly why the Gigantor 15-inch frame caught our eye. With a decent 1024 x 768 resolution, expansive memory card support, IR remote and the ability to hook up a USB hard drive for even more storage, the Gigantor has a pretty middle-of-the-road feature set — until you factor in that huge display and €185 pricetag.
