Engadget: If you’re a gadget freak on a budget, and/or someone who prefers to archive your recorded shows in DivX format so you can cram more of ‘em onto a single DVD, then Toshiba has the product for you.
Their new ¥14,000 (93€) SD-580J DVD player will handle those DivX 3/4/5/6 files and serve ‘em all up via beautiful HDMI.
Or if you’re too cheap for that, then you’ve got your normal array of secondary options: optical sound, composite video, or S-Video.

ExtremeTech: A new wireless HDMI interface – that it standards-based, meaning that it will work with any device with an HDMI plug – has been developed by Tzero Technologies and Analog Devices Inc.
It works by compressing the data using JPEG 2000, an image compression standard whose artifacts are nearly unnoticeable. Pricing wasn’t announced, but Tzero says the system will be demonstrated in the next few months and available in November.

Home Theater Blog: Toshiba will be releasing two new HD DVD players – the HD-E1 and HD-XE1 – into the European market. Retail price wil be around €599 and €899 respectively.
The HD-E1 (pictured) will be available in November, and supports 720p and 1080i HD video output.
The HD-XE1 will be available in Devember, and will support up to 1080p HD video output.

AV Zombie: All of Yamaha’s new AV receivers for 2006-2007 use traditional analogue powerplants – primarily because they believe that the sound of modern digital amplification does not meet their high standards.
Yamaha’s Product and Marketing Manager Hiroshi Kondo, explains: “Of course, we continue to study the technology and we have a lot of choice when it comes to using digital LSIs, but the sound quality is not yet at the level we want. We currently have no plans to put digital amps into our AV products.”
Their new receiver line up includes the RX-N600 DAB receiver, DSP-AX759SE amplifier (pictured above), RX-V559 DAB receiver, the RX-V2700 (an update on the best-selling RX-V2600) receiver, HDMI-ready RX-V1700 receiver, RX-V459 DAB receiver and entry-level RX-V359 receiver.

T3: The first LCD screens to have 3 HDMI inputs have been released by Toshiba.
Previously, the most you’d find on any one TV was two. Here, Toshiba have put 2 HDMI connections at the rear and one at the side.
They’ve called this range the Regza WLT68, featuring 32, 37 and 42-inch models.
The 32-inch model will go on sale 18th September, with the 37 and 42-inchers following on 9th October – prices are yet to be confirmed.
