Onkyo adds high-end 3D Blu-ray player

What Hi-fi: The latest addition to Onkyo‘s home cinema line-up is the BDP-SP809, a £500 Blu-ray player complete with 3D capability, network streaming and THX certification.

On sale next month, the new model has twin HDMI outputs, and uses Marvell’s Odeo processing technology to de-interlace and upscale non-HD to content to 1080p. It can also play DivX HD, MP3 and WMA content on CD and DVD, and also has a USB port to allow playback of audio and video files from a suitable device. (more…)

Onkyo Japan introduces a new FR Series Compact Hi-Fi with the X-N7NX

Onkyo new Micro Hi-Fi X-U1 will now play nice with both your iPhone/iPod and iPad

Akihabaranews: Onkyo introduced yesterday in Japan the X-U1 a new compact or Micro Hi-Fi announced at 35,000 Yen with a CD Player, FM Tuner and USB port that is also sold with an iPod/iPhone and iPad cradle and that will allow you to take advantage of your iOS media library directly from your sofa via the X-U1’s remote control. The X-U1 is also compatible with MP3 files either stored on a USB drive or burned on a CD and offers a nice little 15Wx2ch output.

Onkyo announces second Spotify-enabled AV receiver, plus 3D Blu-ray player

What Hi-fi: Onkyo is introducing a second Spotify-enabled AV receiver, the £800 TX-NR709, which joins the £500 TX-NR609 model launched last month.

The TX-NR709 is a 7.2-channel, THX Select2 Plus design with eight HDMI inputs, dual HDMI outputs, decoding of high-definition audio formats, support for 3D video, an audio return channel and video upscaling to 4K resolution.

There’s a front-mounted USB socket for direct digital connection of of iPod/iPhone and USB mass storage devices. A proprietary universal port enables users to connect Onkyo peripherals.

Being network capable, it can stream audio from a PC or the internet, including Spotify’s Premium service and internet radio stations

Additional features inlcude DSP modes for gaming, Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume,  7.2 multichannel preamp outputs and TI Burr-Brown PCM1690 192kHz/24-bit DACs.

Also joining the Onkyo stable are two  3D-ready, 5.1 receiver/speaker packages as well as a 5.1 speaker-only set-up.

The HT-S9405THX 5.1 system (£1000) and HT-S6405 (above, £600) will be available in May, as will the SKS-HT648 5.1 speaker package with subwoofer (£300).

Finally, the Onkyo BD-SP309 3D-compatible Blu-ray player (below) is on sale this month for £200. It offers 1080p upscaling, AVCHD and DivX Plus HD (MKV) video support, an ethernet port for home networking connectivity and onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks.

Onkyo announces HT-RC370 and HT-RC360

Übergizmo: Onkyo has just announced that they will be replacing their two current home theater receivers – the HT-RC270 and HT-RC260 with two new models: the HT-RC370 and HT-RC360. The new home theater receivers will be among the first AV receivers equipped with the new Marvell Qdeo 4K video upscaling processor. This allows users to upscale video to 1080p and beyond to as much as 4k of horizontal resolution, regardless of the source resolution. Onkyo releases its first DLNA-compatible stereo network receiver

What Hi-fi: It’s been a busy day for Onkyo. This morning came the news that Onkyo’s new 2011 AV receivers will be Spotify-compatible, starting with the £500 TX-NR609, and this afternoon it unveiled three new stereo hi-fi components.

The line-up comprises: Onkyo TX-8050 network stereo receiver (£400); TX-8030 stereo receiver (£300); and the C-7030 CD player (£200).

The TX-8050 (top) and TX-8030 both have a discrete amplifier design with custom-built circuit boards. They deliver a claimed 130W per channel, and use Onkyo’s WRAT amp technology to “reduce distortion and ensure cleaner and more accurate signal amplification”.

Other highlights include analogue inputs, a universal port for Onkyo-branded peripheral devices such as the UP-DT1 DAB+ tuner and two preouts.

The TX-8050 adds DLNA network functionality to allow owners to stream PC audio and internet radio, plus optical and coaxial digital inputs and a USB socket. The device is also compatible with Onkyo’s Remote App for iPhone/iPod.

As for the C-7030 CD player (above), it has a new high-precision clock to reduce timing errors, a custom-built transformer a 1.6mm thick chassis to minimise vibrations.

All three models will be available in black or silver from April.
