Onkyo unleashes its debut Blu-ray player

iGIZMO: Having made the ill-fated decision to back HD DVD in the battle of the HD disc formats, Onkyo is doubtless relieved today to be able to rejoin the HD disc fray with its first Blu-ray player.

Designed to complement Onkyo’s widely acclaimed HD home cinema receivers, the new DV-BD606 will set you back around £400 (approx. 470 euros) for a machine designed to offer rather more performance quality than your common and garden entry-level Blu-ray decks.

With this in mind, the deck carries a v1.3 HDMI jack for Deep Color compatibility. Plus there’s MPEG and 3D noise reduction, 1080p upscaling of your old DVD collection, playback of MP3, DivX and JPEGs from disc or SD card, Burr-Brown DACs for superior audio quality, and both bitstream and decoded PCM output support for the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio ‘next gen’ sound formats.

Onkyo has wireless headphones for the iPod now

CrunchGear: Tired of the tyranny of headphone wires when listening to “Headphone Silence” on your iPod 200 times in a row?

Who isn’t! Lucky for you there’s Onkyo’s MHP-UW2, a pair of unfortunately named wireless headphones that operate on the 2.4GHz frequency.

You have to plug a receiver into the bottom of your iPod in order for it to work, but once that’s out of the way you’re golden.

It’s due for release November 14.
