Parrot serves up Specchio near-field photo frame

Electricpig: Near-field communication hasn’t become mainstream just yet, but the latest digital photo frame from Parrot might go some way towards increasing its popularity – hold your NFC-equipped phone next to it and your snaps will transfer over automatically. No wires!

NFC is the tech behind Oyster cards on the London Underground, and because it doesn’t require Bluetooth-style pairing or any fiddling with Wi-Fi networking, it’s ultra-simple. The downside is barely any gadgets are equipped to use it just yet – it’s just too new.

Nokia’s 6212 Classic is the best-known NFC phone around at the moment, but more are certain to follow in the not-too-distant future – and then we’d expect to see devices like the Specchio become much more widespread.

Kodak gets touchy with EasyShare M820 and M1020 photo frames

Electricpig: Photo frames were the boom product of last year. The latest picture frames from Kodak are actually multimedia playback devices with speakers for playing MP3s, high-def screens and a new touch sensitive border a little like the iPod touch.

The M820 and M1020 offer 8-inch and 10-inch screens with HD resolution and memory card slots for loading and storing JPEGS just like a normal photo viewer. But they also have speakers for audio playback and a Quick Touch Border that allows you to zip through files by swiping your finger along it.

It looks pretty swish in white, but you can choose from Cranberry Red and silver as well, or buy one of Kodak’s fancy Digital Frame Faceplates to clip on the front. The picture frame genre is evolving…

Wireless digital photo frame from Samsung

LetsGoDigital: Samsung Electronics America Inc., announced the release of its new 8” Digital Photo Frame SPF-83V, based on technology developed by Microsoft Research, in time for the holiday season. With this innovative addition to their photo frame lineup, customers can enjoy photos wirelessly in their home and display photos from sharing sites such as Windows Live Spaces or from personal collections on their PC.

The frame works with the Windows Live Photo Gallery, which makes sharing photos with friends and family easy. Users can organize and upload individual photos or albums from their PC to Windows Live Spaces and the photos are ready for display on the frame.
