YouTube hits Sony Bravia TVs

PC Advisor: Google’s YouTube has become the latest online video site available through Sony’s Bravia Internet Video Link service in the US.

Users of the service can access websites such as Yahoo and AOL to stream online videos to a Bravia TV without the use of a PC.

To access the Bravia Internet Video Link, consumers must purchase a small module, priced at around $300 (£150), which attaches to models of the LCD flat-panel TV range manufactured from 2007 onwards. The TV can then be linked with an existing ethernet connection for access to the service.

“Sony was one of the first to bring streaming internet video to the TV in the US without a PC, and now you can access one of the most popular online video destinations on your Bravia TV,” said Randy Waynick, senior vice president of Sony’s Home Products Division.

Sony picture frame-style HD TVs a work of art?

The Register: Should the TV be the centrepiece of a living room or blend in among the artwork and scatter cushions? Sony suggests the latter – its latest HD Bravia line-up has been designed to look like picture frames.

All three 26in (66cm), 32in (81cm) and 40in (107cm) 1080p resolution E4000s are wall-mountable and available in several case colours, including Midnight Sky and Aluminium. These, Sony claimed, make the TVs “blend effortlessly with contemporary or traditional interiors”.

The E4000s include Picture Frame Mode, which enables users to display images from a USB Flash drive, letting you turn the TV into an oversized digital picture frame. Sony launched the feature last week with its Bravia W4000 range.

Is that a VIERA in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

Mobile Magazine: Although we don’t normally see these kinds of phones around these parts, the concept of high-end mobile television watching is nothing foreign to the people of Japan. Sony has a BRAVIA line of phones, Sharp does its AQUOS thing, and now Panasonic is bringing their VIERA technology to the new 920P mobile phone.

To be available through Softbank Japan, the Panasonic VIERA 920p features a substantial 3-inch color display with a wide VGA resolution. As appears to be the norm with Japan-only releases, the 920P also features a simple rectangular design, but the hinge can flip the display either horizontally or vertically, depending on your needs.

But it’s not all about mobile video. The Panasonic VIERA 920p — available in gold, white, black, blue, and pink — also comes equipped with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and a 5.1 megapixel camera.

Sony BRAVIA LCD, Pioneer Plasma and Samsung DLP rank highest in satisfying customers with large-screen high definition televisions

CNNMoney: In their respective segments, the Sony BRAVIA LCD series, Pioneer Plasma series and Samsung DLP series rank highest in customer satisfaction among large-screen high definition televisions (HDTV), according to the inaugural J.D. Power and Associates 2007 Large Screen HDTV Usage and Satisfaction Study.

The study measures customer satisfaction with large-screen HDTVs by examining four key factors that drive satisfaction: picture and sound performance; ease of operation; features; and appearance and styling. HDTV model series are evaluated in three segments-37- to 49-inch HDTV; 50- to 65-inch HDTV (both of these segments include model series using either LCD (liquid crystal display) or plasma technologies); and Rear Projection HDTV.

The study finds that HDTV owners report notably high levels of repurchase intent. The number of owners who say they would repurchase the same brand averages 91 percent in the 37- to 49-inch segment and 92 percent in the 50- to 65-inch and Rear Projection segments. In addition, HDTV owners are also extremely likely to recommend their HDTV brand to others, with recommendation intent levels averaging above 90 percent in all three segments.

“Considering that purchasing a high definition television involves a sizable investment, these remarkably high repurchase and recommendation intent levels demonstrate that the vast majority of owners are delighted with their large-screen HDTV purchases,” said Larry Wu, senior director of the technology practice at J.D. Power and Associates. “This presents an excellent opportunity for manufacturers to not only retain market share but also to leverage their repurchase intentions to other products they sell.”
