Samsung and Sony both claim world’s first 200Hz LCD

TechRadar: Sony’s massive advertising campaign throughout Berlin, where it claims to be launching the world’s first 200Hz LCD TV has been disputed by Samsung. Both have come to IFA 2008 with TVs they claim are the world’s first to display the super fast motion technology.

Both companies are remaining tight-lipped on this officially, but we spoke to the stand bunnies, who are there to provide the public with the information – so if anyone else noticed the confusing statements, this is what they would be told!

Sony’s SB said: “You can get the new Sony 200Hz LCD TV in October of this year, and I think Samsung’s is only the world’s first prototype.

Samsung’s response was much less concrete, but disputed the prototype tag: “It [the claims of who is first] is unclear; if you come in the north entrance, then we will be the first TV, and if you come in via the south, then it will be Sony.

“We are both here with the first 200Hz LCD TV.”

iRiver SPINN hands-on at IFA 2008: watch out iPod touch

SlashGear: iRiver’s SPINN PMP keeps pulling in the kudos, and our hands-on at IFA 2008 didn’t do anything to make us doubt it.

Even a strange leather flip-case that looked like it was held on with medical tape couldn’t disguise a casing that, arguably, is more attractive than that of the iPod touch.  It’s the interface, though, which makes the SPINN such a joy, and a lot of that is down to the incredibly tactile scroll wheel.

Couple that one-handed operation with the convenience of a 3.3-inch OLED touchscreen, and you have a PMP that can be used on the move (even in a pocket) or, scrolling with the right hand and tapping with the left, more leisurely when you’re standing still.

If sheer storage is your guiding light then the iPod touch will best the SPINN – right now the iRiver’s memory maxes out at 16GB.

IFA: Pure demonstrates Evoke Flow

Macworld: Pure has entered the internet radio market with a new product called Evoke Flow that combines internet radio, DAB radio and media streaming with an online radio portal.

While internet and DAB combined radios are nothing new, it is the Pure Lounge portal that sets the Evoke Flow apart from other systems.

Because the Evoke Flow is hooked up to your home network via WiFi, you can use the online portal to add channels and remove channels, plus sign up for podcasts and organize media streaming.

Any changes you make in the Pure Lounge online portal are instantly recognized on the device itself. The portal works in both directions so any changes you make to the Evoke Flow are also added to the Pure Lounge.

Harman-Kardon MS100 all-in-one audio system will make your iPod look tiny

Shiny Shiny: As you’ve probably garnered from the picture, this is one behemoth of an all-in-one audio unit. It’s not as attractive as those crystal-y speakers we saw earlier from Harman-Kardon, but it does pack some serious all-in-one audio goodness.

This isn’t some kind of lame trick from Harman-Kardon either, attempting to dupe you into buying something you believe does a multitude of things – it actually does. It’s an iPod dock, a CD player, FM radio, speaker system and a clock radio. It’s a whole lot of convenience rolled into one, as well as being a great space saver.

For added convenience it comes with a remote control and has S-Video and composite video outputs in case you want to show off your iPod pics and vids on TV.
